Chaplet of Saint Philomena
This hand crafted chaplet can be prayed as a novena for 9 consecutive days, or pray as often you like.
St. Philomena is a 4th century martyr, whose remains were discovered in catacombs in 1802. Pope Gregory XVI canonized her in 1837 and declared her to be the “Great Wonder-Worker" of the 19th century due to the many miracles attributed to her intercession.
Patron saint of: a wide variety of people and causes, including babies and children, those trying to conceive, desperate or forgotten causes, prisoners, virgins, and youth to list a few.
The Chaplet of St. Philomena was composed by St. John Vianney. This chaplet, also known as the Little Crown of Saint Philomena, has a medal of St. Philomena, 3 white beads and 13 red beads. The three white beads represent the three Persons in the Most Holy Trinity. The Our Father is prayed on these beads in thanksgiving for all the favors obtained through the intercession of St. Philomena. The red beads symbolizes St. Philomena’s martyrdom, and there are thirteen red beads to commemorate the number of years that she lived on earth.
St. Philomena's life as seen by visionaries. Three different people who did not know each other had a similar vision about the life of St. Philomena, from which they learned the same things about St. Philomena. To make a long story short, St. Philomena's father was a Greek king who, along with his wife, converted to Christianity after being evangelized by their doctor who they consulted him about trouble they were having conceiving a child. Soon after their conversion and baptism, St. Philomena was conceived and born. St. Philomena grew up as a pious girl and she vowed at age 13 to remain a virgin for Christ. Philomena’s father took his family with him on a trip to Rome to see the Emperor Diocletian. The emperor wanted Philomena’s hand in marriage in exchange for certain arrangements, and her father agreed. Philomena refused to marry Diocletian due to her vow of consecrated virginity. Diocletian was angry about this, and had her imprisoned and she endured many tortures (scourged, tried to drown her with an anchor, arrows shot at her) but survived with the help of the angels. Many people converted seeing how God protected St. Philomena during the many attacks on her. Finally, the Emperor had her beheaded. St. Philomena died to maintain her vow of virginity for her faith. She had 40 days of imprisonment and tortures until her death, which occurred on a Friday at 3 p.m., the same time that Jesus died.
After St. Philomena's remains were found in 1802, she was proclaimed a saint and a great wonder-worker by Pope Gregory XVI in 1836 due to the numerous healings attributed to her intercession for a wide variety of causes.
So consider praying to this patron saint for intercession and let her become your friend and intercessor.
