Our Lady, Star of the Sea Chaplet (Stella Maris Chaplet)
Our Lady, Star of the Sea, (Latin: Stella Maris) is an ancient title for the Virgin Mary, symbolizing her role as the guiding star of hope and protector of mariners and Christians.
This ancient title emerged in the early medieval period and became widely popularized in the 12th century through the writings of St. Bernard of Clairvaux, who famously likened Mary to a star that guides a ship through stormy seas. Additionally, Saint Bonaventure tells us that she "guides to a landfall in heaven those who navigate the sea of this world in the ship of innocence or penance." Our Lady, Star of the Sea, aids not only the sailors aboard those ships, she also aids all those who sail the stormy seas of life.
